#BACKTOSCHOOL ORGANIZATION TIPS


With back to school here, it is time to get organized! Recently I came across Ink&Wink, a subscription company that sends fun stickers, washi tape, post it notes, bookmarks, pens, postcards, and more to your doorstep each month. The box is only $23/month and was full of more organizational goodies than I could ever dream of.



These post it notes are not only cute, but also useful. They can be used to mark pages in a book, write a small to do list, leave a reminder on your desk, or mark a spot in the answers page of your algebra textbook to easily flip back and forth!

A "ME" NIGHT


The past couple days I have been in a funk. My to do list is not getting touched, my room is an absolute mess, and I can't seem to answer a text message. When I get home from work, all I want to do is lay in bed and take a nap. I blame the heat. Something happens to me when temperatures pass 100 degrees and my body and mind choose to go on vacation. However, last night I decided to just relax and have some "me" time, which is one of the most important things you can do when you are starting to feel worn down.

"Me" time has so many benefits. It reboots your brain, allows you to relax, and makes you more productive in the days following. The time I spent recharging my batteries allowed me to feel much better waking up this morning and heading to work and attacking my constantly growing to do list.

What makes a perfect "me" night? It varies person to person, but here is what I need to truly relax:

1.) Cozy jammies....I love these Elizabeth pajamas from Adore Me!

2.) Candles....The fall themed three wick candles are back at Bath & Body Works and I could not be more excited.

3.) Nail polish

4.) Face masks...my current favorite is the Beach Clay Masque from Tone It Up!

My many years as a nanny taught me that kids are extremely picky eaters. Many times kiddos come home with their lunches half eaten. A way to be sure that your child is getting a nutrition meal in during the day is to make the food fun for them to eat. 5 TIPS TO A HEALTHY LIFE


In the past 7 weeks I have had an ultimate makeover. Not only have I lost a total of 13 pounds, but I have found a new found love and confidence in myself and my body. The body is such a powerful tool and we need to be sure that we are taking the best care of it in order to live a long, healthy, happy life. Here are 5 tips on how to live a healthy life:


  1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Be sure you are drinking at least half your weight in ounces of water per day. For example. If someone weights 160 pounds, they should be drinking at least 80 ounces of water per day. I know that drinking water all day everyday can get boring, so add things to your water to give it some extra flavor. Lately I have been adding mint leaves and lemon wedges to my water to give an extra delicious kick, for no added calories.
  2. Start your day with a high fiber and high protein meal. This will kick start your metabolism and keep you full. Lately I have been obsessed with Shakeology. I blend it with ice and almond milk most mornings. It keeps me full for several hours. It also has added benefits of reducing cravings, promoting healthy skin and hair, improving digestion, and increasing energy.
  3. Schedule your workouts as if they were business meetings. It is so easy to get caught up with life. Before you know it you are laying your head on the pillow at night without having moved your body. Find the time that working out is best for you and then block that time off in your planner. For me I have found that it is best for me to go to the gym straight from work. I do not plan anything between 3 and 5 pm each day in order to give myself the time to work out. I also have started making my workouts a social activity by going to Zumba or other gym classes with friends.
  4. Surround yourself with positive people. Getting healthy is difficult if the people in your life are bringing you down. Hang out with people who take care of their bodies and encourage you to do the same. I am involved with two accountability groups that help me maintain my healthy lifestyle. One of them is with a few of the wives of the coaches my boyfriend works with. These women and I have a similar lifestyle, making it easier to encourage and understand each other's daily life.
  5. Don't be afraid to try new things. Get outside of your comfort zone. Whether it be a class at the gym, a detox tea, or a thermogenic. One of my favorite thermogenics is Bikini Bod. It is a natural formula that boosts metabolism, burns fat, prevents bloating, and provides extra energy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABA!


Today my grandmother turns 90! Can you imagine 90 years of life!? You know the saying, as old as sliced bread....well my grandma is even older than sliced bread. SHE WAS ALIVE IN A TIME WHERE THERE WAS NO SLICED BREAD!!! Not to keep harping on how old she is, but I am just astonished by what a long, beautiful life she has lived. She is hilarious, feisty, cute, and one of my favorite people to spend time with. The past couple years I have become extremely close to her and am so thankful for the time I have been able to spend with her since I moved back from Colorado in 2011. 


My grandma, or Baba as I call her, was born in 1925. What a year it was! Besides her being born, it was eventful year across the world. Here are some things that happened in 1925:

Mussolini became the dictator of Italy.

Tea For Two by Marion Harris was the #1 hit.


The first film was shown on an airplane. 

The World Fair opened in Chicago.

Adolf Hitler published Mein Kampf.

Lou Gehrig hit his first career grand slam.

Mount Rushmore was created.

Alpha Phi Omega fraternity was founded.

Happy birthday to the woman who will outlive us all! I love you Baba! (Even though you will never read this!)

FRONT DOOR WREATH


Football season is finally here! To add some football fun to the house, I made this wreath to hang on my door. It was so easy to make and inexpensive with the use of coupons from Michael's Arts & Crafts.



Supplies Needed:

  • foam wreath frame
  • ribbon
  • hot glue gun
  • burlap bow
  • wooden letters & football
How To:
  1. Wrap ribbon around the wreath, hot gluing along the way to assure it stays in place. Let dry and cool.
  2. Hot glue wooden lettering to wreath.
  3. Hot glue burlap bow.

FULFILLED BOOK REVIEW


Fulfilled: Learning to Live the Life God Promised is not only a personal testimony for author Danise Jurado, but also guides others through the steps to finding their own journey to spiritual freedom. This book has been a blessing to my life the past couple weeks and I am praying for the walk it takes each reader on. Jurado is raw and honest about the trials she has been through in her life, but is humbled in the proof that even the worst of times lead her in her relationship with Christ.



Danise talks about our need for God, forgiveness, and breaking free. She speaks of finding identity, hope, courage, and comfort, all to live a fulfilled life. The chapter that spoke most to me was about change. The past year has been full of change for me. Moving towns, switching careers, and growing in my faith have all been drastic life changes for me. While they have all brought positive outcomes, the changes were not easy. They were filled with tears, doubts, and sleepless nights full of prayer.

Danise relates the seven principles of lasting change to her struggle with food addiction and desire to get healthy. The past couple months I have been on a journey to get healthy, happy, and confident with my body image, and it took involving God in this change for it to become a lasting, positive change in my world.

And as God often gives us simple signs to speak to us, the scripture I have been praying over since January 1 of this year, was written in my favorite chapter. "Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hop: Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:21-23

LOOK INTO MY DAILY PLANNER


Lately I have been interested in watching planner videos on YouTube. It sounds weird, but I have been obsessed with to-do lists and organizing since I was a little kid, so it only seems natural for me. I wanted to show a full week layout of my planner, but I have so many students names written for IEP meetings the first part of this week that I obviously did not want to show. 

On Thursday I have word stickers that say: "make today count" "very important" and "be in the moment!" On Friday I have a word sticker that says "I can and I will." Saturday's Broncos vs. Texans football game has a sticker that says "looking forward to this" because DUH! Football is finally back! Sunday's word sticker says "my everything" with a wood embellishment that says "Let's Celebrate Today!" for my Grandma's 90th birthday celebration. The three red dots on each day are where I write my top three to dos/goals for the day, which I fill in first thing each morning.


Many of the products I use to decorate my planner are from Freckled Fawn's Silver Lining Kit. This kit is full of fun embellishments to decorate planners, journals, scrapbooks, and more. OUTSIDE THE HUDDLE WITH CHRISTINE FLORES


Football season is here! Camp is in full swing and our first game is officially less than three weeks away. The past few months I have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing women that are also significant others of football coaches. One of these women is Christine Flores. Her husband is a coach at University of Missouri and I was so excited when she agreed to be interviewed for Outside the Huddle!

Christine is so much more than a coaches wife! While she enjoys this title by supporting her husband and traveling to away games, she also is a social worker and a fitness coach! She keeps herself busy with her blog, getting together with friends, and focusing on her business. Her passion lies in helping others and she would love to help you too, regardless if you are a coach's wife or not! Christine is currently helping me get in shape and would love to help you too! I am learning about nutrition, listening to my body, and connecting with other strong, confident women. Christine's advice for coaches wives (and girlfriends!) is to keep yourself busy and reach out to others. BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP


Fall is just a couple weeks away and as the weather (slowly) begins to cool down, I love making soups! Recently I made this simple, delicious, healthy butternut squash soup.


Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 carrots diced
2 celery stalks diced
1 onion diced
4 cups cubed butternut squash
1/2 teaspoon chopped thyme
4 cups chicken broth
salt & pepper to taste

How to:
1.) Cook veggies in oil 3 to 4 minutes.
2.) Stir in butternut squash, thyme, chicken broth, salt, and pepper.
3.) Simmer until squash is tender. (About 30 minutes.)
4.) Blend to puree soup.
5.) Enjoy!

AIRBRUSHED PERFECTION


I will never spray tan again. I spend about $30 per month (give or take based on occasions) for a spray tan, but that all stops now. Sally Hansen's Air Brush Legs has become my new obsession and is a third of the price I spend on monthly tanning. It is light weight, the perfect color, and does not streak. It is available as a lotion or in a spray bottle, although I prefer the lotion. I am so excited to have found a new, cheaper alternative to spray tans and wish I had found out about it sooner! TITHING



Tithing is something I have always struggled with in my relationship with Christ. The past few months I have strictly followed my budget, allocating where every dollar should be spent. I have put extra money into savings and towards my student loans. But I have not been tithing. I have given here and there, but 10% of my income has not been given to the Lord.

Last week, when reading Danise Jurado's new book Fulfilled (review coming soon!) the Lord put on my heart the importance of tithing. I had pretended it was not important for so long, that I came to realize that I was hurting God by not trusting his plan for my money. He gave the ultimate gift to us, and in Psalm 116:12 it says, "What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?"

While everything I own belongs the Lord, it is still important that I accept His will and give 10% of it to ministry as he requests. More importantly, this can not be done with a negative heart. It can not be done with the attitude of doing it just because the Bible says we have to, but with an attitude of gratefulness that we even have this money to give in the first place.

This week I encourage you to look at what you are giving to the Lord, not just with finances, but in every aspect of your life. Our lives belong to Him. Make sure it shows.

ZUMBA


A couple weeks ago I went to my first Zumba class at the gym. I have a friend who goes a couple times per week and I joined in as a way to spend time with her. It was such a great workout and such a fun, productive way to spend time with friends. I stepped outside of my comfort zone, which is NOT easy for me, and am so happy with the results. I have retapped into my love of dance, while finding a new fun way to get cardio in.

Zumba is great for a high calorie burn. My friend wore her Polar watch to class one day and it said she burned over 1,200 calories...and I believe it! I have never broken such a great sweat. I was still sweating an hour after my first class. Zumba is a full body workout. The high intensity dance routines activate your core muscles, heart rate, and burns fat quickly.

Stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new with a friend has brought me great joy the past few weeks. I highly encourage you to get out of your comfort zone, be it a class at the gym, or trying a new restaurant, and find something new you love.

#RELATIONSHIPGOALS


Blake and Miranda. Gwen and Gavin. Jen and Ben. Celebrity couples are breaking up every time I refresh my Twitter feed and people are more and more shocked as the names get bigger and bigger. I won't lie, I was a bit disappointed when I heard Bennifer was splitting up, before realizing I have no clue what goes on behind closed doors and wondering why I even cared about two complete strangers.

Celebrities face extreme amounts of pressure and time constraints in their relationships. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were living in two different states, traveling on tour, filming television shows, and performing at awards shows. It would actually be a miracle if they could make it work. While they were all smiles in paparazzi photographs, it was all be a facade and we did not even know. "Things are altered and edited. What you are seeing is not the real deal," said Bea, 18.

People break up every day. Divorce rates are at an all time high in our country, so it should be no surprise that celebrities get divorced...they're people too. "The problem isn't the person being a celebrity. It's why are we looking up to them?" questioned Marshall, 21, when asked about the thought of people admiring celebrity relationships. These couples should not be admired for their name. We should seek marital guidance from those that despite all odds against them, have made it work. The couples that are still together after 50+ years. The couples that have been through losing a child. The couples that have survived financial strife, multiple moves, and unemployment.

Of the ten people I spoke to regarding this topic, all ten saw an issue with how celebrity couples are being tagged #RELATIONSHIPGOALS on social media. However, it is still a problem.

How can we stop it? Replace our adoration of celebrities with adoration for everyday heroes. Realize that not everything is as we seem. Be conscious of what the media portrays.

S.M.A.R.T GOALS


I have always been a goal setter. I know what I want and plan out exactly how to achieve it. Sometimes I set goals that are out of reach though, setting myself up for failure. However, with the S.M.A.R.T goal technique, it makes all goal setting easy and attainable.

How to set S.M.A.R.T goals:

S- Specific. Determine the who, what, where, when, which and why.

M- Measurable. How will you know you accomplished your goal?

A- Attainable. Figure out the attitude, abilities, skills and finances you need to reach your goal. If it is a goal you are reevaluating, determine why it failed the first time and how you can change your failures into successes.

R- Realistic. Are you willing and able to achieve your goals? No one can make your goals happen except for you!

T- Timely. Without a time frame, there is no urgency.

For example, one of the goals I am chasing right now is to lose a certain amount of weight by the end of the year. This is a very specific goal. It is measurable because I will know I achieved it when the scale reads a certain number. To achieve this goal I need a positive attitude, self control when eating, and to utilize the gym. I need to plan out my meals and workouts and weigh myself regularly. I have set this goal before and failed because I did not set a date to achieve it by, which I now have. It is realistic because I have weighed this number before and it is a healthy weight for my body. The time frame gives me a deadline to get it done.

Another tip with this big goal, is setting mini goals. I have figured out what I want to weigh by December 31st, and have broken it down into two week intervals, to be sure that I am on track.

HELLO AUGUST


I feel like I just wrote my July Word of the Month post a couple days ago...not thirty days ago. Yet here I am again, looking back at another month past. My focus for July was adaptability...to get into a routine and relax. I feel like I am finally into the swing of things with my new job and creating a new routine and am loving it! 


My focus for August is going to be on the word PROACTIVE. 
I will have a positive attitude, and choose happiness.
I will be observant, reflective, focused, and productive.
I want to get things done this month!
