APRIL FAVES

The Justin Timberlake memes finally end tomorrow as we enter May.

April's been a nutty one and I don't see May slowing down at all. Unfortunately, I have been neglecting this blog, but the new editorial calendar has been created and I promise at least 3 posts per week this month. Expect a preview of Rachel's season of The Bachelorette, a Mother's Day gift guide, and an updated review of Farm Fresh to You.

As per tradition, the end of the month comes with some of my favorite things the past thirty days.
1. The Virzi Triplets (@virzitriplets on all social media platforms) is a weekly podcast about the lives of three comedic triplets airing each other's dirty laundry for the listener's entertainment.

2. Hourglass Immaculate Liquid to Powder Foundation is a full coverage foundation that lasts long with a velvet matte finish. It can be found at Sephora for $56.

3. Michael Kors Daniela Large Leather Crossbody was an impulse purchase, but much needed since I need something smaller for when I go out. It is available in stores or online for $198.

4. Le Tote is the Netflix of fashion. Clothes can be rented, worn, and returned. I have put together great outfits for specific occasions without having to purchase an outfit that you only wear once. It typically runs for $39 a month, but to sample it for free click here.

5. Maren Morris' debut album HERO has been on constant repeat in my morning commute. If you see me driving down the 405 at 7am it's likely I am blasting Drunk Girls Don't Cry and Sugar.

STICKER SWAPS

I am a sticker addict. I love using them in my planner for specific events or just to make it look nice. So when Sticker Swaps reached out to me to send me some of their goodies from March, I was happy to oblige. While these stickers are too large to be used in my planner, they are still fun to use on other things.

Sticker Swaps is a monthly subscription box that sends an envelope full of stickers to you. For only $9.99 per month, Sticker Swaps sends at least 10 stickers to you each month. My favorite in the March kit were the sushi stickers and the dog. They were super practical for my life. Sticker Swaps also offers cheaper rates per month if you pay for several months at a time. To check out Sticker Swaps, visit their site or follow them on Instagram.

THE BIG LIFE REVIEW

Latest Read:
The Big Life: Embrace the Mess, Work Your Side Hustle, Find a Monumental Relationship, and Become the Badass Babe You Were Meant to Be by Ann Shoket

I am grateful for my drive. I work full time, I run a blog, I sell jewelry, I am working on two post-graduate degrees, and am heavily involved in my church. I thrive on busy, but none of it matters if it is not meaningful. It is difficult to balance a life you love. It is even more difficult to find a tribe of likeminded women who are also hungry and ambitious and can motivate you to reach the next level of success.

The Big Life gives guidance to young women on how to do it all with style and grace. It covers finding a passionate career, how to demand respect in the workplace, how to build a supportive squad, how to take control of your future, how to embrace the chaotic life balance, and how to find a perfect partner. It guides you to create a vision of the life you have always wanted.

It is beautifully written and filled with positive experiences of many women throughout the country who have achieved the level of life we all strive for. I admire Ann’s viewpoint as someone who has been there. It gave me some great advice on how to tackle the stuff I have to do with the stuff I want to do.

DIY FACE MASK

I love the Oatifix mask from Lush but it is expensive when you figure how quickly you need to use it for it to be fresh. Oatmeal face masks are beneficial because they cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize the skin. They are great for sensitive skin, soothe irritation, and treat inflammation. Oatmeal face masks treat acne, eczema, and absorb oil. While the Lush mask is a nice treat, the same type of mask can be made at home for much cheaper.

Need:
5 tablespoons of oatmeal
1 tablespoon of milk

How to:
Mix ground oatmeal and milk to make a paste.
Apply to face and let sit for 20 minutes.
Rinse with  lukewarm water.

SUSTAINING ENERGY

A new Tone It Up 8 week challenge is upon me and I am excited to dive all in the next 2 months. I have some reasonable goals set and I love that Tone It Up provides me with a strong support system, a nutritious meal plan, and attainable workouts.

In past challenges I have found that it is mid afternoon that is my biggest struggle with eating right. I tend to crash and start to crave sugar to keep me awake and attentive at work. This seeps into me going to workout after work and I often end up adding coffee or an energy drink on top of that sugar I already consumed, which actually leaves me feeling worse.

In order to sustain energy throughout the 8 week challenge, and in my afternoons, I follow these three tips:

1.) Hydrate yourself! A lot of times our body starts to doze off because it is dehydrated. If you are craving something sweet, add lemon to your water, or grab a flavored seltzer water, such as La Croix.

2.) Grab a snack that is healthy and fuels your body. A snack that is delicious, filling, and high in protein, is perfect for the mid afternoon slump. I recommend Go Macro Macro Bars which are vegan, organic, and most importantly to me - gluten free!

3.) Get your vitamin on! Be sure you are consuming enough vitamin B, iron, and vitamin D to be sustaining energy, staying awake, and keeping the pounds off.

BLOGGER SPOTLIGHT: MABEL STEVENS

No words I can write will express the strength and grace of blogger Mabel Stevens. She is a beautiful woman who I do not believe I have done justice on in this blog post. Her story is powerful, raw, and a true testimony of the greatness and glory of Jesus Christ.

At age 5, Stevens moved from West Africa to the United States, due to fear of a civil war. Her parents had already experienced this, which moved them from Liberia to Cote D'voire. Coming to the U.S. with very little, Stevens was often the victim of bullying by her peers, being called burnt and a roach. This took a toll on her self esteem, leading Stevens to becoming depressed and suicidal. she questioned why God would make her this way and decided life was not worth living. Stevens wrote suicide notes in secret. By the grace of God, that night her Mom forced her to come to church with her.

Stevens made the decision that if Christ could die for her, she could live for Him. Although she began living for Christ, Stevens still experienced the internal damage of what bullies were saying to her. One morning as she was loathing herself in the mirror, God let her know he was sick of it. He told her, "I did not make any mistakes on you Mabel. Who told you being dark skinned was an insult?" The way she looked at herself following that was that her skin tone wasn't an insult, but a fact. She began to see herself the way God created her to be.

Over the years, Stevens began healing her heart with the help of God. She often would hear the Holy Spirit saying beautiful, but breaking it up into Be You Too Full. "It took sometime but eventually it registered to me God was telling me to be me to the fullest extent of whom He has called me to be," said Stevens.

Hearing this, Stevens felt God had called her to create her blog to share her story. She argued with God, but obeyed. Writing her testimony has helped heal her.

"I'm thankful that through Christ I overcame this issue in my life and what better way to show my thankfulness than to live for Him. I want to show Christ to others that they can overcome difficult trials in their life. My goal is to be that person I wish I had growing up as a young girl."

One of her favorite posts she has written is "The Lost Get Found." In it she illustrates the story of how she lost herself to find herself, giving up her life to chase after God. She shares personal anecdotes of her leaving her parents to start Bible school and creating a personal relationship with God. Her most recent series, "A Worshiper's Diary" shares daily devotionals which include personal poems, scripture references, and worship music.

Outside of blogging, Stevens enjoys writing poetry, singing, and dancing. To learn more about her, visit her blog Be-You-Ti-Ful or find her on YouTube and Facebook.

BLUSH PINK MOOD BOARD

I am obsessed with blush pink right now. I am trying to add it into any possible outfit, including my jeans and my nail color. In the psychology behind colors, blush pink is a nurturing color with gentle, loving energy. It is a color that promotes hope and good health. This mood board incorporates the use of the color in fashion and beauty.

5 HAIR HACKS

If I could have a hair stylist on call everyday, that would be great. But it's never going to happen. However, these five hair hacks have helped me to get my mane contained on the days it's not in a messy top knot.

1. Dry shampoo. All day e'ryday. (This one's my favorite!) Dry shampoo saves you when you don't have time to wash your hair or don't want to wash it every day. It absorbs the excess oil in the hair, making it last an extra 1-3 days without a wash.

2. Change the way you use bobby pins. Before using, spray them with hairspray, so that they get tacky and can hold the grip of your hair better. Afterwards, put them in wavy side down. This way they will not slide throughout the day.

3. Tame fly aways with a toothbrush. Spray it with hairspray and comb them down. They won't go anywhere after. But please just don't use that toothbrush for anything but that from that day forward. 😧

4. Lather, rinse, and actually repeat. A lot of times when when we wash and rinse hair, it's not enough to strip the grime and dirt out. By doing it a second time, it assures the perfect cleanliness. It also allows your hair to be able to go longer without washes. (At least in my experience.)

5. For perfect beach waves, but not much time, braid your hair, then run a straightener over it. It will leave you with lovely, loose waves.

EASTER CRAFT

Easter is next week and I have been spending a lot of time scrolling through Pinterest to find fun ways to decorate. This wreath, created by Love the Tompkins of Home Talk, struck my eye and would be simple to make.

What you need:
  • 4 orange tulip bushes (could be fresh, but I recommend getting fake flowers from a craft store!)
  • green burlap ribbon
  • "greens" (also could be fresh, but I recommend getting from a craft store)
  • wire
How to:
  1. Bunch a group of 4-5 tulips together, staggered, to form tip of the carrot.
  2. Wire in burlap ribbon and attach to the top of the bush of flowers.
  3. Continue adding 3-6 tulips, moving down the stems, following with the ribbon and wire.
  4. Once all "carrots" are wired in, add "greens" to the top.
  5. Attach with wire and ribbon.
  6. Tie burlap ribbon in a bow around the joining of tulips and greens.

SHOP FOR A CAUSE

This month is Autism Awareness month. A cause that is extremely important to myself and many of my students, I find this month to be a valuable one for me. This month my passion for individuals collides with my passion for jewelry. Stella & Dot has partnered with the HollyRod Foundation to donate a portion of proceeds from four bracelets to Autism research.

As an added benefit to ordering from Stella & Dot this month, all commission I earn in April from purchases will be donated to the HollyRod Foundation. If you are interested in ordering from Stella & Dot, leave a comment below or visit my page at www.stelladot.com/catedimmitt.

LOVED AND BLESSED REVIEW

Each month I receive a box of love and encouragement on my front porch. This month's Loved and Blessed Box focused on bearing fruit. This is appropriate after a recent series at church about pruning ourselves as His branches.

This awesome box from Loved and Blessed included a mini poster, a reminder sticker, a scripture card, a stationery set (the pens have the fruits of the spirit on them!), and an encouragement kit. I plan on sharing the encouragement kit with a young lady in my small group at church who is new in her faith.

Loved and Blessed is a Christian subscription box service with a goal to help women share their testimony. For only $19.99/month (even cheaper if you buy in bulk!), each box includes a mini poster, reminder sticker, scripture card, and small gift.

I enjoy receiving the Loved and Blessed Box because it provides me with encouraging reminders to remain strong in my faith. It is different than any other box I have received. It is full of meaning, heart, and joy. Place your order quickly to receive your own box of encouragement next month!

CELEB DINNER PARTY

Recently I was asked if I could have ice cream with any president, who would it be? This lead me to think about which celebrities I would want to have dinner with

1.) Michelle Money - I have loved her since The Bachelor, loved her even more in Reality Steve podcasts, and loved her most in my Money Method course. I would love to sit down and get to know her in real life.
2.) James Lafferty - I would love to see if he's as perfect in real life as he is in One Tree Hill as Nathan Scott.
3.) Peyton Manning - I see him as the greatest football player of my generation and of course a Bronco's Super Bowl quarterback, so I would love to share a drink and meal with him and hear his stories of his time in the league.
4.) Reese Witherspoon - She is my favorite actress and I feel like we would be real life besties.
5.) Lauren Graham - After years of watching her play Lorelei Gilmore and recently listening to her newest book, I feel like she would have me peeing my pants at the dinner table.

Which celebrity would you want to have dinner with?

APRIL GOALS

April is going to be a good month. I feel it in my bones. The past couple months have had really Christ centered goals. I am trying to focus on the fruits of the spirit. I have been trying to be more present, joyful, and show grace on others and myself. This month though my focus is on GENTLENESS.

I want to speak truth but with love and compassion. I want to show to myself that I can be strong and gentle at the same time. I want to pour into others with a soft touch. I want to influence others with a spiritual truth. Instead of arguing with others, I want to keep the gentleness of God at my center. I want to surrender the act of judgement and focus on growing.

"Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near." Philippians 4:5
