SEPTEMBER FAVORITES

September is usually my favorite month to be honest it was difficult and I am glad to see it go. It was emotionally, physically, and spiritually draining. I am praying that a new year (24!) and a new month can push me towards feeling like a rejuvenated person. Although the month was not my favorite, here are some things I loved in September:

Book – Sorry Not Sorry by Naya Rivera; This was a simple read but I could not put it down. I would have read it in a day if my personal time allowed for it. I was always indifferent to Naya but this book made me fall in love with her raw honesty. She doesn’t hide her demons, but uses her trials to remind readers to stay true to who they are.

TV Show – This Is Us; This new NBC show is AMAZING. It gives me the vibe of previous shows I have loved such as Parenthood and Gilmore Girls, but with a unique storyline. The cast is remarkable and I do not believe anything like this has been done before. I look forward to loving this series for MANY years to come.

Scent – Bath & Body Works Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte; I am not sure if this is a new scent this fall, but I have never purchased it before. I have been burning it in my room the past couple weeks and really enjoy it.

Clothing Item – My “Don’t Worry Be Yonce” shirt from Gammis; I am a big fan of graphic tees and this one has gotten a lot of smiley compliments from people all over. The saying is kitschy and the shirt is extremely comfortable. It can be worn to work out, lounge around, or be dressed up with jeans, booties, and a leather jacket.

App – Ibotta; I’m disappointed that I did not know about this app prior to this month. It lets you scan your receipts and barcodes of purchases and if they are on promotion during that time period, you can earn cash back. So far this month I have earned $17.25. If you want to sign up, download the app HERE

Blog Post – Plan With Me 9/4 ; This Plan With Me is my favorite of all time, so there is no doubt that it would be my favorite blog post of the month. I wish every week’s spread could be this beautiful and fun!

BEST KARAOKE SONGS

I enjoy going to karaoke to watch people, not to participate. I could break windows with my voice and do not want to make an idiot out of myself for the entertainment of others. However, if you are brave enough to sing in front of a large group of people, but do not have the best voice, try some of these songs. They are simple to single even when you can not carry a tune:
  • Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
  • 500 Miles - The Proclaimers
  • Wannabe - The Spice Girls
  • Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
  • Say My Name - Destiny's Child
  • No Scrubs - TLC
  • Love Shack - The B52s
  • Uptown Girl - Billy Joel
  • Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
  • Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede

NATIVE SPRING GRATER REVIEW

The Native Spring Cheese Grater is a top of the line grater that has rotary razor sharp stainless steel blades. It works grate (hehe!) with cheese, but goes far beyond that with the ability to grate fruits, vegetables, chocolate, nuts, and more. I personally feel it is perfect for grating fresh coconut on top of smoothies or acai bowls, which is especially perfect timing for my upcoming Tone It Up challenge.

The Native Spring Cheese Grater has removable parts which is nice when it comes to storing it and washing it. My favorite part is that it is dishwasher safe because let's be real, I dislike doing dishes and try to put whatever possible into the dishwasher.

This grater is currently half off for a short period of time. To take advantage of this deal, head over to Amazon and get to grating.

Native Spring is also behind many other helpful household products, including spiral vegetable slicers, chalkboard labels (need some of these for football season!), essential oil diffusers, and more. They also host a review club, allowing product users to earn free products by leaving honest, unbiased review.

WONDER WOMAN COSTUME

Halloween is around the corner! In one month it will be time to put your best costume on and there is no time too early to begin prepping. For the next five weeks I will share adorable Halloween costumes that you can create on your own. First up is this Wonder Woman costume. While this costume is often sexualized, this is a more classic version that can be created for cheap.

Blue leggings can be purchased anywhere but the cheapest bet is Walmart.
Wonder Woman shirt, which can also be found at Walmart.
Cuffs and headband can be made on your own. These specific ones were found here on Etsy. The seller also has other Wonder Woman themed items for sell.
Red boots, your best bet is to head to a thrift store or consignment shop.

What other looks would you like to see this Halloween season?

FALL READING LIST & BARNES AND NOBLE GIFT CARD GIVEAWAY

This year I have been following Pop Sugar’s 2016 Reading Challenge. While there are only three months left in the year and I am not even half way through, I have still enjoyed being exposed to new books that I never would have picked up otherwise. Pop Sugar also recently put out another reading challenge specifically to follow, which can be seen here.

As the weather cools down, this is my favorite time of year to curl up with some tea and read a good book. Some books that tick off some of these challenge boxes that I am planning on reading this fall are:

A Book with an Orange Cover: Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler

A Book Published in 1995: Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts (One of my favorite books and movies…I look forward to rereading)

A Book Your Book Club Read That You Skipped: Pretty Happy by Kate Hudson (Which I’m already working through slowly!)

A Book Published in 2015: The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight (Something I REALLY need to learn how to do!)

In honor of fall reading and my birthday week, I am giving away a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card!

FALL TRANSITION PIECES

Transitioning your summer wardrobe into fall is a lot easier than it thinks. This time of year, as the weather is in limbo, layering is the most important. This means, adding in leggings, flannels, and sweaters to the typical summer wardrobe. A summer dress can be transitioned into fall with a dark sweater and cute boots. Shorts can be spruced up with printed tights underneath. A tank top can still be worn when topped with a flannel and a bright necklace. Adding a scarf to any look is also great to transition because with chilly mornings and warmer afternoons, it is easy to remove and add back on later.

What are your favorite transition pieces?

10 THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME

1.) A couple years ago I taught myself how to wax my own eyebrows. I have saved a ton of eyebrows and they've been a shape I love and can control ever since.
2.) One of my favorite actresses is Jennifer Garner.
3.) I really hope Luke and Lorelei are married in the Gilmore Girls revival.
4.) My car is always an absolute mess.
5.) I would love to see Gwen Stefani in concert.
6.) The older I get the more I think I look like my mom. (Besides her coloring!)
7.) I was terrible at math in high school, but I have enjoyed Algebra a bit more when I help students with it.
8.) I share a birthday with Bruce Springsteen.
9.) I recently stumbled upon the Husky corgi crossbreed and I really want one!
10.) My favorite candy is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, but they are very difficult to find.

OUTSIDE THE HUDDLE: GAME DAY OUTFITS

Season is finally here! Our first home game is this Saturday and while most of the fun is in screaming my face off in the stands, some of the fun also lies in picking the perfect outfit for the big game. Recently I stumbled upon a game day apparel company, Live Love Gameday, after several of my friends were tagging me in their Instagram photos of their perfect for me shirts.

Their apparel and accessories are perfect for football (as well as other sporting events), affordable, and true to size. This shirt is perfect for those of us who love our coaches. Pair one of their shirts with jeans, shorts, or even a maxi skirt, team colored accessories, and sandals for a stylish way to kick off football season! When ordering, use the code CATED at checkout for 10% off!

GWEN STEFANI LOOK FOR LESS

One of my favorite things about Gwen Stefani is how true to herself she has remained over her years in the business. Many people come out of Hollywood a different person for the negative, but Stefani has continued on the path that was truest to her. She is well known for her eclectic style from her early days in No Doubt to her recent days on The Voice. Here is a look of Gwen's I love, recreated for less than $125!

SEPTEMBER!

My favorite month is here! Football, my birthday, fall TV, pumpkin spice, and so much more! This month I am focusing on hitting the refresh button. I have been following Whole 30 for 5 days and will continue that through this month. I broke through the initial crummy detox feeling and am now feeling alert, energized, and refreshed. This month I am going to put myself, my needs, and my health first!
