My Favorite Vacation Destination

I started this post off with a list of beautiful places I've been in my life and all the great sites to see there. The mountains of Vail, the beaches of Bermuda, and the bars in San Diego. However, the hundreds of amazing vacations I've been on with friends and family don't amount to the summer trips in Sunriver, Oregon with my family.

My first memory I have is me crawling into the (unlit) fireplace at the Sunriver house to get my beloved Power Rangers watch out. Many more childhood memories take place there, especially the family reunions with all my cousins. Floating down the freezing cold river as a family is a summer tradition, but nothing tops the time my cousin Ben stood up in the canoe and in him and my aunt Dode went. We've enjoyed many great bike rides, pony rides, and trips to the observatory.

Sunriver is a place so dear to my heart. I appreciate my parents taking us there every summer and I am sorry that we have let the past few years slip as we have all grown up and moved away.

I hope one day my own children can experience the laughs I had at Fort Funnigan, the delicious treats at Goodie's Ice Cream Parlor, and the glow in the dark putt putt on warm summer nights. But most importantly I want them to know the place that made my childhood so great and a place that made me who I am.

Makeup Monday: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Review

Just as with nails, I was never a lipstick person until one of my roommates in college was a roommate fanatic. My first lipstick I ever purchased was made by Smashbox and wore it everyday for about a month until I got bored of the color. After that I purchased a few different Mac lipsticks, but realized I got bored with those colors too and wanted a wide variety of lipsticks so I could have different shades and finishes to fit the mood and look I was trying to reach. However, I could never buy variety with Mac on my budget, so I began using the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick. At about $5 per stick, I was able to buy 3 or 4 lipsticks for the price of 1 Mac lipstick. I chose Revlon over any other drugstore brand because it's the lipstick my grandma wore and now I understand why.

With over 82 shades and 4 finishes, there are so many options for the look, mood, and occasion you are seeking. It is super moisturizing and has an even application. It applies easily and is buildable, which is great for someone with fair skin to rock bold colors.

My personal favorites so far are: Creme 660 Berry Haute, Creme 646 Sultry Sable, and Shine 840 Honey Bee.

Nail Art

I was never much until how my nails looked until college. Prior to that I bit them down to their beds and couldn't keep polish from chipping after three hours of applying it. When I had a roommate in college who got her nails done every two weeks to the minute, I finally began to care about how mine looked. Usually I go with acrylics, but I'm finally branching out to other nail designs. I have a friend who is great at nail art and I've been looking for new things for her to try on me next time we spend a lazy day together.

Here are some of my favorites I found on Pinterest:

reminds me of Mardi Gras!

perfect for a Disney fan

I love the different nails and they go together great...so me!

My friend Jayme had hers like this a couple months ago and I was obsessed!

Perfect for Easter brunch

The Fabulous Life Of...

While planning a concert on campus last fall, my roommate began to tell me of the crazy things that were on some of the artists riders. A rider is a list of all there wants and "needs" in the dressing room backstage and they will ask for anything and everything to make them feel comfortable while on the road. A popular request? Fresh underwear. It seems artists don't want to do laundry on the road, or better yet have someone do it for them, so they are given new drawers at every venue they play. Some of the requests are crazier and more time consuming, such as Jennifer Lopez wanting all white everything...white flowers, curtains, furniture, and walls.

Here are more crazy celebrity requests:

  • Kanye West: Any driver he has must wear 100% cotton clothing
  • The Foo Fighters: Coloring books
  • Cher: A separate dressing room for all her wigs
  • Beyonce: Dressing room must be kept at exactly 78 degrees
  • Rihanna: No visible lockers or bricks, they must be covered with white drapes
  • Will Ferrell: A fake tree on wheels
  • David Hasselhoff: A life sized cut out of himself
  • Prince: A physician to give a B12 shot
  • Jennifer Hudson: Baked chicken wings (for breakfast)

OGX Shampoo Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Review

OGX Shampoo Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen
I purchased this product a few bottles of shampoo ago because it was on sale and contained the word biotin, which I had heard helps hair growth. Usually every time I ran out of shampoo I would try something different, but I have used this shampoo consistently for two years ever since I first bought it. I have began to use other OGX products, which I have also enjoyed.

LOVE:
-price (7.99 at Rite Aid for 13 oz., which lasts me about 5 months)
-adds volume to my VERY flat hair
-has definitely made my hair appear thicker

DISLIKE:
-doesn't add much moisturize to my dry hair, but the proper conditioner has helped that (I do not use the coinciding conditioner to this shampoo)

Overall I give the shampoo an A-! I recommend it to anyone and everyone!

What I Wish I'd Known About Post Grad Before Graduating College

There are so many things I have discovered about life in the past three months since I graduated. Some of them were things I was warned about and chose not to listen to. Some of them are things that were painful and exhausting to learn. Others were things I'm proud of. Here's what I've been warning all my May graduates about, although I know many of them will choose to find out the hard way:

  1. Your friendships will change, end, grow, and transform. I've managed to stay friends with most of the people I was friends with in college. Some of those girls I haven't seen since I moved out in December, others I've seen more than I saw in my two years at CLU. Some I talk to everyday and others are simply a like on Instagram.
  2. You will want to throw away all stability. Everything in life is so rocky when you graduate, that the stable things make you want to run away. Because everything was so uncertain, I didn't know how to handle the things that I was certain about, especially my relationship. I have had many freak outs, but luckily my boyfriend understands how I feel since he was in my position a year ago, and has been encouraging, supportive, and loyal.
  3. It's okay to take a breath. A lot of my friends who are still in school gave me a lot of crap for not working for awhile after graduating. However, all the older people who have been long out of my position told me to enjoy my days of having no responsibility and binge watching Netflix, because I will NEVER be able to do it again, ESPECIALLY when I have kids.
  4. It's okay to ask for help. I was very depressed beginning about three weeks after graduating, until about two weeks ago. It was a very difficult transition for me to be in school for 18 years and then suddenly no longer have any structure and any routine. I realized it's okay to ask for help from your family, friends, and even professionals. It's worth it to talk to someone instead of letting things build inside of you.
  5. You are not the only person who has ever felt this way. I felt like the only person on earth who had felt these emotions. I thought that no one understood me and no one sympathized with me. However, a lot of people have been in this post-grad limbo and a lot more people will. Talk to them. Get advice. And prepare to give advice to those in the future.
  6. Stay true to your gut. There were jobs I could've taken and I wouldn't have been happy. There was a job I took and I knew it wasn't right for me. I didn't have to find a career that I will be in for the rest of my life, but I did need to find a job I would wake up and not dread going to every day.
  7. Nothing will go as planned. A year ago when asked what I would be doing after graduation, I had a whole nice beautiful plan lined up with lots of money, my own apartment, and a job I love. HA! Dream on. I'm broke, living with my parents, and working two jobs that pay slightly above minimum wage.
  8. You're going to cry...a lot. All I've done is cry. I cry because I never see my friends. I cry because I still live at home. I cry because I'm a planner and NONE of this is part of my plan. I cry because I have one too many Jell-O Shots on St. Patrick's Day and someone makes me sad. I have 18 emotions a day, which no isn't healthy, but is all part of figuring out what the heck I'm doing here right now.
  9. It's lonely. This goes along with #5, but you will feel like no one understands you. Especially graduating mid-year like I did. I only had one other friend graduate in December and she's 500 miles away. So many times I have felt so alone in this transition, even when I'm surrounded by people.
  10. Graduating college is a huge accomplishment. Be proud! You worked your butt off for four years, or three and a half or five, or however long it took you, BE PROUD! It takes a lot of time, effort, motivation, all-nighters, and support from those who love you to graduate, so enjoy the fact that you've made it this far, and you will continue to do great things!

a moment inside my head...

Wearing. Black leggings, White cami, Hanger 221 Black Hi-Lo button up tank. The coziest socks in America.

Feeling. Restless. I really just want to lay in bed & watch TV, but I'm forcing myself to do a little bit more today.

Watching. You caught me. The Fabulous Life of Nicki Minaj....and boy is it fabulous. She pays her nail lady (whose name is Kandi Yamz) $11,000 a month just to do her nails only. This isn't including the cost of nails & travel expenses to wherever Nicki is in the moment.

Eating. Nothing. Just got back from lunch at Jersey Mike's with mom.

Needing. A hot bath, back massage, glass of champagne, and a pedicure. (Okay, Nicki is getting to me.)

Thankful for. My boyfriend. Baby Nette. A roof over my head.

Dreaming. of the day I'll get paid to write.

Wanting. a weekend getaway, preferably to the beach.

Loving. my new Sweet Spun Sugar soy candle from Target.

Clicking. Off Season for Coaches My boyfriend retweeted this from Football Scoop and I couldn't get enough. I love that he loves what he's doing. I love that I'm part of this life. The fall can be hectic for coaches and their families, but it's all 100% worth it.

Post Grad Problems

The hardest part about graduating has been that none of my friends are on the same page as me. Because I graduated a semester early, none of them get what I'm going through. They have an impression that I don't do much all day, (yes some days this is true) and that I'm always available for spontaneous beach days and late night drinks at their leisure. They get annoyed when they ask my spring break plans and I remind them that HELLO there is NO spring break after college! Very few people understand my current emotions and many people think I'm overreacting with my worries, fears, and anxieties. Where I am now is nowhere near where I expected to be. My plans have gone completely off course and my friendships have drastically changed. I've struggled to find people who I can connect with emotionally and physically. The only person who truly gets it is the person who was in my shoes six months ago, my boyfriend, James, and for that I'm truly grateful.

I guess this is all part of growing up.

Juan PabNO Part 2

I've already made my dislike for Juan Pablo from The Bachelor known once before on my blog. But after finally watching last night's finale and after the final rose special, I am disgusted by this man's behavior.

How a man with a 5 year old daughter at home, who is likely to be viewing her dad's TV show, can speak so sexually explicit and disrespectfully to the women he is dating is beyond me. His comments whispered to Clare privately to Clare in the helicopter were so repulsive that I do not want to give them a place on my blog. If you're curious, you can Google it. Although I was not a Clare fan this season, I was proud of her for sticking up to him. I too would NEVER want a man like that raising my children.

While I respect his decision not to propose to Nikki, I don't appreciate the fact that he told her he had the ring in his pocket. Why would you taunt a women who loves you like that? And the fact that after five months of dating he can't tell her he loves her....run for the hills Nikki.

Even Chris Harrison and The Bachelor producers are thrilled JP's season is over...as are Bachelor fans everywhere.

New Hair!!

New hair cut for me! I am in love with it. A job well done by Delia at Salon Studios in Oak Park. I've been there once before, about five months ago, for a deep conditioning treatment because my hair was so damaged from excessive coloring. I had vowed not to color it anymore, but after seven months since my last bleach job, I just couldn't handle my roots anymore. Every time I looked in the mirror I wanted to scream. The cut and color were very pricy...at least for an unemployed recent college grad...but it was a nice gift from my Mom who goes to Delia all the time and is fine with her prices. I guess with time (and a paycheck) I will be fine with it too. Thank you Delia for the great look!

Off to San Diego I go for the weekend :)

Weekend Wrap Up

Another weekend come and gone! Friday night I had burgers with my parents at The Habit. They have new fried tempura green beans that I got in place of french fries, and they were the bomb.com! After that we drove down to LAX to pick my brother Ryan up. He flew in from Florida for a business trip and came a couple days early to spend the weekend with us. Saturday morning I tried to sleep in, but to no avail. We all went to see Monuments Men and I was asleep before the opening credits were done. My family enjoyed the movie and I got a nice $10 nap in. That night we had Sharky's for dinner, then I baked a cake and we all played Phase 10, one of our favorite card games. Sunday the whole family and a few friends got together at my oldest brother Chris' house for some of the world's best ribs and mac n cheese! We watched some of the Oscars and I was impressed with what I saw. Ellen was hilarious and everyone looked stunning. My favorite dress of the night goes to Lupita Nyong'o who won best supporting actress for 12 Years A Slave.

Have a happy week friends :)
