Planning Your Dream Wedding: Things To Think About and Do

Your engagement is cause for celebration, and you have just entered the fascinating world of wedding preparations.  Following the steps that are listed below will direct you through the most important aspects of planning the wedding, which are those things that you must do before walking down the aisle.

1. Choose a date for the wedding.

Because without a date you will not be able to book any venues or vendors, setting the date for your wedding is the most important part of your wedding plans. When people find out that you are engaged, the question "When is the wedding?" is by far the most common one they ask. The time of year that you decide to get married is another factor that will have an impact on your wedding budget. For instance, if you are on a tight budget, you might want to plan your wedding during the winter months. This is because there is a wider selection of wedding vendors available during this time of year because there are fewer weddings in cold-weather regions.

2. Create a budget.

Confronting one's financial situation head-on is the primary goal of budgeting. Some couples like to establish a general budget for their wedding, and if they stay within that range, they are content with the result. Some people are more careful about how they spend their money, and they use the all-powerful spreadsheet to plan out where every single cent will go. Creating a wedding budget is an excellent opportunity for couples to gain insight into one another's spending patterns and to discuss the aspects of the wedding that are most important to them. It is possible that the groom has his heart set on purchasing those designer suits for his groomsmen, or it is possible that the bride does not give a hoot about following the latest trend when it comes to her dress. In the end, you and your partner will have a budget to which you can hold each other and you will have gained a lot of insight into the other person.

3. Create a guest list.

It is time to decide who you want to invite to your wedding now that you have chosen the date and created a financial plan for the event. To get a sense of the size of your base, you should begin with the members of each of your families. These are the guests who are most likely going to send a response card for your wedding. Consider inviting a plus one for guests who are attending alone when calculating the total number of attendees for the event. When you begin searching for potential locations, you will need to have an accurate headcount of all of your guests.  Do not beat yourself up if you are unable to invite each and every person and their mother.

4. Select guests for the wedding party.

The maid (or matron) of honor, the best man, the bridesmaids, the groomsmen, the junior bridesmaids, the flower girl (or girls), and the ring bearer are the members of the wedding party.  Generally, these are the attendees who are close to you, be they relatives or best friends, and will be standing by your side as you exchange your vows with one another on the day of your wedding. It is customary to buy thank-you gifts for each member of the wedding party; therefore, you should ensure that you include the cost of these gifts, as well as any other costs that you might be expected to pay, such as for your hair and makeup, your attire, and so on, in your budget.

5. Pay a visit to and reserve the venue.

When it comes to planning your wedding, you have reached the point where the real work begins. The ideal location for your wedding will be decided upon by taking into account both your finances and your guest list. Additionally, this will be the first time that you will begin to get an idea of how your wedding day will play out. Do you want to have the ceremony outside and the reception inside, or do you want to do it the other way around? Do you prefer to have a spectacular event with hundreds of guests or a small ceremony in a private location? Conduct some research into the various kinds of locations that could host your special event and determine which ones best fit your vision. Once you have a short list of potential locations, you can save yourself some time by calling each one to confirm that they are available on the date of your wedding. Finally, schedule a time to visit each location so that you can inspect the facilities and get immediate responses to any questions you may have. Some venues will allow you to schedule a special appointment during which they will set up a sample of their wedding decorations for you to look at.

6. Arrange catering

When a couple has decided on a location for their wedding, one of the first vendors they reserve is the caterer. You will want to find out what your catering options are while you are touring your preferred locations, so ask about those! Some locations demand that you make use of their staff and may even give you a sample of the food on their various menu options. If you are allowed to hire your own catering company, then you will want to make this step the next priority because some venues also have rules about outside caterers. If you are allowed to hire your own catering company, then you will want to make this step the next priority. You want to be able to serve the food that the two of you enjoy most from a caterer that is within your price range and lives up to your standards.

7. Go dress shopping

This step is more important to some brides than developing a financial plan for their wedding. It is possible that finding the dress of your dreams will require you and your girlfriends to make multiple trips to the bridal shop. To try on all of the different designer gowns, you might even have to travel outside of town, to a store that is located several hours away. If you want your bridal stylist to be able to assist you in narrowing down the selection of dresses, it is helpful to have a general idea of what you want the dress to look like. You should put your trust in their expertise and knowledge of their inventory in order to select the perfect gown for your big day. They have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of brides in all kinds of dresses, so even if you do not know why something is not working, there is a good chance they will be able to address worries you did not even know you had.

8. Book your photographer

When looking to hire a photographer, such as Vittore Buzzi,  it is important to first examine the photographer's body of work and then meet with them in person to get a sense of their personality in general. Does their website and/or social media feature examples of their work in a variety of weddings for potential clients to peruse? Are they friendly and do they pay attention to what you require? Because you are going to spend the entirety of your wedding day with this individual, and because a good portion of your wedding plans will revolve around what you want the photographer to capture, it is going to be a long day if you are unable to get along with them or do not like their personality.

Because the market is so saturated with everyone from amateurs to professionals, finding a wedding photographer to hire can be a challenging and difficult task. There is nothing inherently wrong with cutting costs by hiring an amateur who is just starting out, with the exception that you run the risk of missing out on important moments being captured on the wedding day. Since no one is perfect, even professionals occasionally make errors, albeit much less frequently.

9. Hire a DJ

Your guests will take away an overall impression of your wedding day based on the atmosphere that the DJ creates for your reception. Because there is a predictable flow to the events that take place at weddings, no one wants an inexperienced DJ to be in charge of the show.  When your guests are ready to start having fun, a skilled DJ will step in and take control of the reception. Make sure to set up a meeting with each of the DJs on your short list so that you can get to know their personalities and discuss the ways in which they can assist you in planning the wedding of your dreams.

How One App Changed My Life

Balancing being a working mom is something that has been difficult for me ever since my daughter was born. Having to maintain a household on top of that was extra stress and while I am fortunate enough to have someone come clean and help with laundry every other week, I still have to handle the day-to-day pieces of life, such as emptying the dishwasher, vacuuming the floor, organizing my closet, and making sure dinner is on the table. Over the last two years I have found myself overly stressed with figuring out how to get it all done.

That’s where Fly Lady came in. I first learned about her and TikTok through one of my favorite accounts, Rosa Picosa. Rosa is a mom of two who, at the time, was following the Fly Lady Method of keeping the home maintained and the amount of overwhelm mom‘s experience low. I downloaded the free app and the rest was history.

The Fly Lady method tracks small habits daily, weekly, and monthly. On a day-to-day basis there’s a morning routine, afternoon routine, and evening routine, to keep the home running smoothly. Some of the things in these routines include making sure your teeth are brushed (I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to do this as a new mom), figuring out what’s for dinner before it’s actually dinner time, and making time for yourself to exercise and do your skin care routine. The daily tasks help me from keeping any one thing from piling up and causing me stress. For example, you do one load of laundry per day. However, I don’t have a load of laundry to do every day, but I do have it most days and this prevents me from having to spend Sunday doing five or six loads.

The weekly tasks are known as The Home Blessing. These are things that really need to be done weekly throughout your home and it’s a good strategy to keep them from being built up and causing, again, more stress. Are you sensing a theme here? This includes vacuuming, mopping the floors, washing your bedsheets and taking out the trash. There are also weekly rotating zones. These are areas that don’t need to be cleaned every week, but should be cleaned on a monthly basis. For example, the zone this week is the kitchen. I cleaned out my fridge and freezer, got them organized, scrubbed the stove, organized my junk drawer, and a couple other necessities in the kitchen.

Having these checklists really helps me to reduce the overwhelm and decision fatigue I deal with on a daily basis. I don’t have to think about what to do next in order to keep my house in order; I just open the app and figure it out. Another thing I love about Fly Lady is she doesn’t expect you to spend all day cleaning. She encourages you to set a timer for just 15 minutes and spend 15 minutes focused on tidying up and another 15 minutes focused on the zone. As far as the weekly home blessing, people do it differently based on what works for them. I try to do it all in one day, however some people will do one task per day and that works for them. I highly recommend checking out the app if you are struggling to find the right way to take care of your household and are feeling overwhelmed on a daily basis. My day-to-day stress has reduced greatly since following this method and I hope it can help you too.
