S.M.A.R.T GOALS

I have always been a goal setter. I know what I want and plan out exactly how to achieve it. Sometimes I set goals that are out of reach though, setting myself up for failure. However, with the S.M.A.R.T goal technique, it makes all goal setting easy and attainable.

How to set S.M.A.R.T goals:

S- Specific. Determine the who, what, where, when, which and why.

M- Measurable. How will you know you accomplished your goal?

A- Attainable. Figure out the attitude, abilities, skills and finances you need to reach your goal. If it is a goal you are reevaluating, determine why it failed the first time and how you can change your failures into successes.

R- Realistic. Are you willing and able to achieve your goals? No one can make your goals happen except for you!

T- Timely. Without a time frame, there is no urgency.

For example, one of the goals I am chasing right now is to lose a certain amount of weight by the end of the year. This is a very specific goal. It is measurable because I will know I achieved it when the scale reads a certain number. To achieve this goal I need a positive attitude, self control when eating, and to utilize the gym. I need to plan out my meals and workouts and weigh myself regularly. I have set this goal before and failed because I did not set a date to achieve it by, which I now have. It is realistic because I have weighed this number before and it is a healthy weight for my body. The time frame gives me a deadline to get it done.

Another tip with this big goal, is setting mini goals. I have figured out what I want to weigh by December 31st, and have broken it down into two week intervals, to be sure that I am on track.

What are some goals you are currently working towards?
