I have loved writing my
whole life. I remember being a child keeping a journal, writing poems, and
working through emotions on paper. As an adult, this has continually been a
passion of mine and has transformed itself into blog form.
Back in April I learned
about Morning Pages from entrepreneur Doug Cartwright whose morning routine is
on point. The Morning Pages are a morning journaling session. The goal is to write
three pages (yes, write! Do not type!) of stream of consciousness first thing
when you wake. When I first started it was difficult to fill the three pages,
but now I am having to cut myself at page 5 or 6 to get off to work.
There is no form to Morning
Pages, you just write what you feel you need to write. Whatever pops up in your
head you put it down on paper. Consider it “taking out the trash.” Morning
pages allow you to clear any anxieties for the day ahead, process anything from
the day prior, come up with new creative ideas, or just write three pages of “I
DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO
WRITE.”
I encourage you this week to
set your alarm for 15 minutes early, wake up, open an old notebook, and write
three pages of thoughts. It will positively impact your day. I promise!
