OUTSIDE THE HUDDLE: CAMP LIFE

Camp is here for most of our teams. This is the time of year that kicks off the season and gives you a reminder of what it is like to be alone for the next 4 months. Historically I have two really good cries during football season—one during camp and one about a week before the end of season.

Here are 5 tips for surviving camp season:

1.)    Catch up on TV! You now only have one person to share the remote with, so binge watch all The Bachelorette and Big Brother your little heart can handle. There is no way my boyfriend would allow me to watch these shows in his presence and I am sure it is the same for many other football wives!

2.)    Meet up with friends you have not seen in a while. Now is the perfect time to fill your calendar with coffee dates, hiking, and grabbing drinks with your girls. You have no obligation of a game time or duties during camp, so fill it with the people you love.

3.)    Take up a new hobby. Last year during camp I started working out a lot. I have never enjoyed working out, but with exploring and finding the right workouts, it has become something I really enjoy doing and actually look forward to.

4.)    Stop by the office. Last year during camp I stopped by with pizza for my boyfriend and the other coaches. This was a simple gesture to help me feel involved in camp and keep my boys fed!

5.)    Pray. I rely on God a lot in my life, but I feel like I communicate with Him most during football season. Trusting in His plan for this crazy life is the best way to get through it.

I am excited for football season to be here and hope this is our best season yet. I am anxious about handling two Master’s courses, working full time, and traveling to games, but I know that I can do it with the help of my coach, family, and friends.
